Petite Sirah – Zinfandel is a blend of two classic Californian grape varieties. Zinfandel in particular is widely planted throughout the US state, with Petite Sirah taking a slightly lesser role in California's wine portfolio. When combined, the two make intensely colored wines with strong aromas of black and blue fruit.

The rich and ripe flavors of Zinfandel – often the blend's main constituent – are supported by Petite Sirah's robust framework. The high tannin of Petite Sirah gives the wine the ability to age for several years and, if the acid is high enough, will help cut through Zinfandel's rich berryfruit flavors. The two varieties are often joined by Syrah, another grape variety that has proved itself in California's terroir (see Petite Sirah – Syrah – Zinfandel for more information).

Both varieties are suited to warm, dry climates, of which California has plenty. Petite Sirah – Zinfandel wines are often made in Napa and Sonoma, although there are myriad examples from all over the state.
