Cabernet Franc – Malbec is a blend of two dark-skinned red wine varieties, primarily used in Bordeaux and Argentina. Depending on the proportions used in the blend, Cabernet Franc and Malbec blends can range in color from inky black through to much lighter violet. Generally speaking, the more Malbec in the blend, the darker the wine is likely to be, in both color and fruit profile.

Malbec and Cabernet Franc are members of the Bordeaux blend, although a pairing without the ubiquitous Cabernet Sauvignon is unusual. Small volumes of Malbec are grown in the Loire Valley, giving producers there the opportunity to add some weight to their Cabernet Franc. Cabernet Franc and Malbec from the Loire are also suitable for rosé production, resulting in dry, perfumed and deeply colored wines of this style.

Other New World countries like Australia, New Zealand and the United States also make small volumes of Cabernet Franc and Malbec wine.
