Cantine del Notaio

Cantine del Notaio is a wine producer based in the southern Italian region of Basilicata. Gerardo and Marcella Giuratrabocchetti founded the estate in 1998, and today it specializes in classic Aglianico del Vulture wines.

The estate now comprises 26 hectares (64 acres) of vines spread out across several villages in the area. These offer a variety of different terroir types, ranging from sand to volcanic residue and clay, but all share a characteristic layer of volcanic tufo.

Cantine del Notaio has restored a series of caves, where it ages its wines in French oak barriques. The natural volcanic cave system was carved out in the 15th century, and its cool, dark environment provides ideal conditions for aging wine. The winery is located close to the town of Rionero on the slopes of Mount Vulture.

The estate makes a range of still and spumante wines from the Aglianico grape variety. This includes three expressions of Aglianico del Vulture: Il Sigillo, La Firma and Il Repertorio. Cantine del Notaio makes both dry and sweet white wines from Malvasia Bianca, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Moscato Bianco (di Basilicata).
