Falesco is an Italian wine producer making wines in Lazio and Umbria. It is best known for its Montiano wine, a varietal Merlot labeled under the Lazio IGT designation, but makes a range of wines from around central Italy.
The Lazio estate consists of a winery and around 100 hectares (250 acres) of vineyards located in the area between Montefiascone and Lake Bolsena. As well as the Montiano, the Lazio estate makes a white wine called Ferentano from the Roscetto grape variety, the Tellus Syrah and a wine called Le Poggere from the Est! Est!! Est!!! di Montefiascone DOC.
In Umbria, the 260 hectares (642 acres) of vineyards are centred on Orvieto. The wines made here include the Vitiano range, the rest of the Tellus range, and a Cabernet Sauvignon – Cabernet Franc blend called Marciliano. On top of this, Falesco makes a Sagrantino di Montefalco called RC2.
The estate was founded in 1979 by celebrated brothers Renzo and Riccardo Cotarella – the former is also known as the group winemaker for Antinori, and the latter as one of the world's foremost consultants. Falesco is now run by their daughters.
