Gérard Bertrand is a wine estate in the Languedoc owned by the eponymous former professional rugby player. Bertrand, a former captain of the top Stade Francais club, retired in 1994 at the age of 29 to take over the full-time running of his family wine estate, Domaine de Villemajou in Corbières, upon the early death of his father. A year later he purchased Domaine de Cigalus, and now owns nine separate estates around the Languedoc. Eight of these are farmed biodynamically.
The portolio of wines includes separate estate labels, such as the flagship Cigalus, and Château l'Hospitalitet, plus brands such as Hedo, Art de Vivre, Naturae, Gio and 6ème Sens. Numerous international awards have been accumalated; Bertrand was awarded the title of Red Winemaker of the Year for 2012 at the London International Wine Challenge. The following year the 2011 Terroir Languedoc Coteaux de Languedoc was included in Wine Spectator Magazine's Top 100 Outstanding Value Wines of the Year.
