Kaesler is a wine producer based in the Barossa Valley. While the first wines made under the Kaesler label were released in 1997, the vineyard had been operating for over a century, providing grapes for Seppelts. Today, the company makes a range of classic Barossa wines from old vines – most famously Shiraz.
The estate is comprised of several vineyards in the Barossa, totalling around 37 hectares (92 acres) of vines. The Home vineyard, which surrounds the winery, is Kaesler's original vineyard and has sandy soils with a layer of clay which helps the vines in the hot, dry conditions. This vineyard has a small plot of vines planted in 1893 which are used to make the flagship Old Bastard Shiraz. A plot of Shiraz in a nearby vineyard planted in 1899 makes The Bogan and Alte Reben wines, while other plots planted in the 1960s and 70s provide grapes for the Old Vines Shiraz, as well as a host of other wines.
At the more approachable end of the spectrum, Kaesler makes the Stonehorse range, which is made up of a Shiraz, a Grenache – Shiraz blend, and a white wine made from Palomino.
