Mas Martinet is a Spanish winery linked to the small group of winemakers attributed with reinvigorating Priorat as one of the country's finest wine-producing regions. Garnacha is the most important grape in the vineyards and in the wines, making up the majority of many of Martinet's blends.
The winery dates back to 1989 when José Luis Pérez and the likes of René Barbier, Alvaro Palacios, Carles Pastrana and Dafne Glorian began reviving vineyards in Priorat. They produced their first wines together in the Clos Mogador winery before separating in the early 1990s to each found their own estates. Pérez founded Mas Martinet.
Mas Martinet farms 10 hectares (25 acres) of vineyards, all certified organic since 2009. It remains family-owned with Pérez's daughter, Sara, now running the estate. Garnacha is joined by Cariñena and Syrah in the various cuvées, along with smaller amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Production is small at roughly 3,000 cases annually, but the wines are highly regarded.
Sara and her husband René Barbier Jr. also own Venus La Universal which makes the labels Venus and Dido in the neighboring Montsant appellation.
