Porto Cálem is a famous Port producer founded in 1859 by António Alves Cálem in the Douro Valley, Portugal. During this time the wines were mostly produced for export to Brazil in exchange for local woods – it wasn't until the late 19th Century that the focus turned to the production of Ports. The grapes for Cálem Port come mostly from the Cima Corgo and Douro Superior regions of the Douro Valley, where the vineyards are planted predominantly with Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Cão.

Porto Cálem was family-owned until 1998 when then Sogevinus Group bought the company, along with its Port holdings and vineyards. In 2004 the same group purchased the Quinta do Arnozelo vineyard, where a portion of the grapes used for Cálem Port come from. Aside from this Quinta, Cálem also purchases many grapes from growers around the Douro – this in line with the trend of producers in the area. This quinta is approximately 200 hectares (494 acres) and is planted with grape vines, alongside olive and orange trees and a large forest. Some 95 percent of the vines were terrace-planted after 1992. All the vines in the Quinta do Arnozelo are classified A according to the local quality scale that rates vineyards A through F.

Sogevinus recently purchased the Quinta do Pego, one of the most illustrious and highest quality quintas in the region. This is a 20-ha (50-acre) vineyard planted with vines that are approximately 80 years old atop of ancient terraces. The grapes from this vineyard are set aside for some of Cálem's finest expressions of Port.

There are three categories of Port at Cálem, besides the Vintage Port – White, Ruby and Tawny ports, as well as a series of aged Tawny expressions. There is also a range of single-quinta wines that are intense, full-bodied and are made to be drunk with age.
