Bedrock Wine Co. is a Sonoma-based wine company founded in 2007 by owner and winemaker Morgan Twain-Peterson. The label was created as a way for Peterson to showcase the quality of red and white grapes produced from ancient vines and distinct appellations in Sonoma, California including Sonoma Valley, Carneros, and Bennett Valley.
Bedrock Wine Co. is driven by Morgan Twain-Peterson’s desire to reinvent and redefine true California wine via ancient field blends. Peterson is the son of esteemed winemaker and owner of Ravenswood Winery, Joel Peterson, and has grown up making wine at the family estate and studying internationally with acclaimed wineries such as Noon Winery in McLaren Vale, South Australia and Chateau Lynch-Bages in Pauillac, France. Furthermore, Peterson is a Master of Wine certified by the Wine and Spirits Education Trust (WSET)—one of less than 30 Masters from the United States.
Bedrock Wine Co. crafts a diverse range of wines from specific, well-known vineyard sites in Sonoma County including the Monte Rosso Vineyard, Hudon Vineyard, Kirschenmann Vineyard, and Puccini Vineyard, to name a few. The historic Bedrock Vineyard, located in the heart of Sonoma Valley, is a Peterson family holding and home to 120 year-old Zinfandel vines that produce fruit for Bedrock’s Heirloom Wine.
The vinification process of Bedrock Wine Co. is rudimentary as most of the work is done in the vineyard with meticulous farming practices. At harvest, grapes are picked earlier than most to retain acidity and better express terroir. At the winery, grapes are rarely sorted or de-stemmed. Fermentation is done with natural, indigenous yeasts and little racking or new French oak is applied to the wines during the aging process.
