Château Bouscassé is a producer known for its structured Madiran wines. It is a part of the larger Vignobles Brumont portfolio headed by the well-respected winemaker Alain Brumont. (© Copyright material, Wine-Searcher.com)

The estate is located in the Maumusson-Laguian commune within the Madiran appellation, and has been in the Brumont family for many years. Alain Brumont took over production from his father in 1979, and the wines have since become some of the most iconic in South-West France.

There are four wines made under the Bouscassé label. There is a standard Madiran, a Vieilles Vignes version made from older vines, and two terroir-driven cuvées. The Argile Rouge is made from grapes grown on a rare plot of red clay in the vineyards, and Menhir combines Tannat and Merlot, which come from bouldery yellow clay and gray clay soils, respectively. Bouscassé also makes a dry Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh predominantly from Petit Courbu with a dash of Petit Manseng, and three sweet wines harvested on different dates with different sweetness levels – Vendémiaire, Brumaire and Frimaire. A fourth, Les Larmes Célestes, is made from grapes that did not make the cut for the other wines.

Château Bouscassé is one of Brumont's premium undertakings, along with Château Montus, but he also makes a range of entry-level Madiran wines under his own name.
