San Silvestro is an Italian wine estate based in the northwest region of Piedmont. The San Silvestro winery is located in Novello in the Barolo vineyard zone and specializes in not only the production of Barolo wines, but also those of Alba, Asti, Langhe and Gavi.
The estate was founded in 1871 by Giovanni Sartirano, and is today managed by the family's fourth generation, Paolo and Guido Sartirano. Today, they oversee the cultivation of 7 hectares (17 acres) of estate-owned vineyards and work in close partnership with approximately 40 wine growers from across Piedmont.
San Silvestro produces a diverse portfolio of wines from well-known Italian grape varieties including Barbera, Nebbiolo, Dolcetto and Moscato Bianco, but also rarer and more regional-specific Piedmontese grape varieties such as Nascetta, Bonarda Piemontese and Brachetto. These vines are planted on a wide range of soils including marl, clay, limestone and sand.
The vast majority of the San Silvestro portfolio focuses on the red wines of Barolo, Barbaresco, Barbera d'Alba, Barbera d'Asti and Dolcetto d'Alba. This range is complemented by some of Piedmont's most revered white wines, such as Roero Arneis and Gavi, as well as a selection of still and sparkling white and rosé wines. In addition, San Silvestro makes two sweet wines including a single Moscato d'Asti, plus two organically certified wines.
