Château Preuillac is situated in Bordeaux's Médoc region, approximately six miles (10km) north of the commune of Saint-Estèphe. The estate focuses on the production of three red wines: Château Preuillac (grand vin), Esprit de Preuillac (second wine) and émotion Preuillac.

The foundations of Château Preuillac were laid by Edmond Addé in 1869. A century later, the estate gained Cru Bourgeois status in 1932 and, following several changes in ownership, it was acquired by Raymond Bouët in 1969. In 1998, with the selling of the château and its vines to the Mau and Dirkzwager families, Jean-Christophe Mau took control of the management of the estate and has remained the château's director through its acquisition by SAS Vins Plus in 2014.

The 30-hectare (74-acre) vineyard is planted primarily to Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, with smaller quantities of Cabernet Franc making up the remainder. The sun-exposed, south-facing vineyard is composed of three soil types: clay-limestone and gravel (50 percent), gravel and sand-gravel (25 percent each, respectively).

After fermentation and maceration, the wines age on their lees in French oak barrels, with the grand vin spending 12 months in barrel.
