The coat of arms of Mireval

Muscat de Mireval is a small appellation for sweet, golden vins doux naturels made from the Muscat Blanc a Petits Grains grape variety.

Mireval is a commune in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of southern France. It is immediately north-east of the widely respected Frontignan appellation but its wines rarely receive attention, unlike other vins doux naturels from the region such as the Banyuls and Muscat de Rivesaltes styles.

The soils of Mireval are heavy in alluvial material and round pebbles, left by the glacial activity that occurred during the formation of the Alps and the Massif Central, the range of low mountains in south-central France.

The commune of Mireval is right next to the coast and its climate is Mediterranean, producing the long, hot summers Muscat grapes need to develop the more complex of their aromas. At their best, the wines have complex, floral notes, tinged with honey.

Muscat de Mireval wines are rarely seen outside France and production is dominated by a single co-operative.
