The coat of arms of Cabrieres

Cabrieres is a named terroir within the Pezenas sub-region of Languedoc-Roussillon's Languedoc appellation. This means that the village may append its name as a formal part of the Languedoc appellation title.

The village of Cabrieres is located at the hillier, northern end of the Pezenas sub-appellation, on the relatively steep, south-facing slopes of the eastern Montagne Noire hills. The Herault river flows through the village and its vineyards, as it winds its way down from the hills, across the coastal plain to the south and towards the Mediterranean Sea. This combination of geographical factors means that the Cabrieres terroir is a combination of alluvial or schistous soils and a Mediterranean climate. Long, hot days and cooler mountain nights mean increased diurnal temperature variation – an important factor in the creation of wines with balanced sugars and acids.

The Cabrieres appellation covers only the red wines from the village (the white Clairette-based wines produced here claim the Clairette du Languedoc appellation). As is the case for all red Languedoc wines, these are made predominantly from Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre.
