The coat of arms of Saint-Drezery

Saint-Drezery is a named 'terroir' of the Languedoc appellation in southern France. Along with Saint-Christol, just five miles (8km) to the east, it lies at the eastern edge of the large Gres de Montpellier sub-region. This means that as a recognized source of higher-quality red wines, the village may include its name as part of the official appellation title, giving Languedoc Saint-Drezery.

The area covered by the appellation is limited to the village of Saint-Drezery, which is almost entirely surrounded by vines. The relatively flat and low-lying (160ft/50m) terrain is made up of mainly alluvial soils over limestone bedrock. The climate is definitively Mediterranean, with a slight marine influence due to Saint-Drezery's proximity (12 miles/19km) to the southern French coast. The production zone of Muscat de Lunel lies almost immediately to the south, with the city of Montpellier located 13 miles (21km) to the west.

The wines made under the Languedoc Saint-Drezery title are reds made predominantly from Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre grapes, the local cepages ameliorateurs ('improver' varieties). Although the traditional Carignan variety was once significant in the local wines, it is now being phased out in favor of these higher-quality varieties.
