The coat of arms of Albano Laziale

Colli Albani is a DOC of the Lazio wine region of central western Italy. Created in August 1970, the title exclusively covers white wines made predominantly from Malvasia di Candia (up to 60%) and Trebbiano, of which various sub-varieties are permitted. The local Malvasia (Malvasia del Lazio) is also specifically included under the DOC laws, and may make up anywhere between 5% and 45% of a Colli Albani blend.

The area covered by this DOC centers around the villages of Ariccia and Albano (hence the name Albani), and includes parts of Pomezia, Ardea, Castelgandolfo and Lanuvio. These are all located in the hills just south of Rome, dotted around the western side of Lake Albano, which is a extinct volcanic crater lake.

These are typically fresh-styled, dry white wines with the slight zing that one might expect from wines grown in a volcanic area at between 1000ft and 2000ft (305m and 610m).
