The coat of arms of Roma

Roma wines are those produced under the Roma DOC title created in 2011. They may be red, rosé or white, and are made from a wide portfolio of the traditional grape varieties used in central Italy. As may be obvious from the title, the viticultural region in question here is that which surrounds the Italian capital Rome.

Almost all Roma wines are blends, with the obvious exception of two single-variety styles: Roma Malvasia Puntinata and Roma Bellone. Bellone is very much a part of the traditional viniculture here in Lazio. Although its primary use is in blended white wines (such as the famous Frascati), it is given the opportunity to shine alone here in Roma (and also in varietal wines from nearby Nettuno and Marino).

The sparkling jewel in the Roma wine portfolio is Romanella spumante, which is made as 'brut' or 'extra dry'. Like the standard Roma Bianco, this is made from Malvasia del Lazio (which must make up at least one half of the blend) blended with any combination of Bellone, Bombino, Greco Bianco and Trebbiano.
