The coat of arms of Treviso

Colli Trevigiani IGT is just one of several IGT (Indicazione Geografica Tipica) titles used in the Veneto region of north-eastern Italy. As hinted at by its title, the geographical area covered by this appellation is the hills (colli) of Veneto's eastern Treviso province,

Treviso is the home of Italy's affordable answer to Champagne, sparkling Prosecco. (although it really deserves respect as a wine style in its own right). It isn't surprising, then that a fair number of Colli Trevigiani IGT wines are made from Glera (the Prosecco grape). Other important varieties used here include Pinot Grigio for white wines and the Bordeaux Blend varieties (the Cabernets and Merlot) for reds.

Theoretically, a Colli Trevigiani IGT wine may be made any one of various styles: red, white or rosé, blend or varietal and still, sparkling or sweet. In practice, however, they are almost entirely dry, still table wines. After all, the local sparkling wine production is comprehensively taken care of by Prosecco.

The Colli Trevigiani title was introduced in 1995, just after the IGT category was first introduced.
