The coat of arms of Verona

Verona IGT is just one of several IGT (Indicazione Geografica Tipica) titles used in the Veneto region of north-eastern Italy. As implied by the title, its viticultural area covers the province of Verona.

A Veneto IGT wine may be made in any one of various styles: red, white or rosé, blend or varietal and still, sparkling or sweet. The key red-wine grapes used in these wines are those already well-established in the Verona province, notably Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara (the key varieties used in the red wines of Veneto's most famous appellation, Valpolicella. The corresponding whites follow a similar pattern, and are often based on Garganega, the variety behind the region's most famous white wine, Soave.

Due to its location just east of Lake Garda, and 60miles (100km) from the Adriatic Sea, Verona enjoys a relatively moderate climate. Its latitude, coincidentally, is almost precisely the same as that of Bordeaux.

The Verona IGT title, which may alternatively be written Provincia di Verona IGT, was introduced in 1995, just after the IGT category was first introduced.
