Schwaigern is a town 2.5 miles (4km) north of Neipperg and 7.5 miles (12km) west of Heilbronn, in the Württemberg region of Germany. Mixed agricultural land surrounds the town, though the area is somewhat flatter than some of its neighbors, with fewer steep suntrap slopes.
However, Schwaigern does boast one Grosse Lage-classified vineyard, Ruthe, a parcel at the top of a south-facing expanse of vineyards a few kilometers south of the town, and about the same distance northeast of Neipperg. This site enjoys generous sunlight hours, which result in early flowering vines. Riesling and Lemberger are the notable grape varieties planted here.
The town is the seat of the noble von Neipperg family, winegrowers in the region for 800 years and owners of Weingut Graf Neipperg. Much further afield, Count Stephan von Neipperg owns and manages the Saint-Émilion properties Château Canon-la-Gaffelière and La Mondotte.
