The logo of Saint-Macaire

Cotes de Bordeaux-Saint-Macaire is an appellation for sweet white wines produced in an area at the western edge of the Bordeaux wine region. Very little wine is made under this title, although the area once produced large quantities of sweet wine from Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon grapes.

Like Loupiac and Saint-Croix-du-Mont, Cotes de Bordeaux-Saint-Macaire was distinguished from the Premieres Cotes de Bordeaux appellation because it produced sweet white wines, rather than red. High-quality wine production was not maintained and most wines produced in this area now qualify simply as AC Bordeaux.
