Wood burner among the vines, Chitry

Bourgogne Chitry is the title given to the red, white and rose Bourgogne wines produced in the commune of Chitry, in the north-west of Burgundy.

Chitry is one of a small cluster of villages in the area which have their own appellations. The others are Coulanges-la-Vineuse, Irancy and Saint-Bris. They are located 70 miles (110km) north-west of the main Cote d'Or wine-growing centers around Beaune,

Bourgogne Chitry wines are produced predominantly from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes, grown on limestone-rich kimmeridgian soils. The vineyards are planted on the valley slopes surrounding the village, at varying altitudes of 600 to 1000ft (180–305m). The continental climate here contributes to the fresh, steely style of the white wines in particular.
