Cotes de Nuits-Villages (or very rarely Vin Fin de la Cote de Nuits) is the appellation for red and white wines from a select group of communes in the Cote de Nuits sub-region of Burgundy. The communes of Brochon, Comblanchien, Corgoloin, Fixin and Premeaux are included in the appellation's catchment area, which covers the northern and southern extremities of the Cote de Nuits.
The appellation might be seen as something of a gap-filler – designed to cater for some high-quality, but rather scattered vineyards not already serviced by the communal appellations. In fact, Fixin also has its own independent title, while both Brochon and Premeaux are additionally covered by the communal appellations of their immediate neighbors (Gevrey-Chambertin and Nuits-Saint-Georges respectively). Comblanchien and Corgoloin are the two communes which do not have another title to fall back on. They occupy the no man's land between the northern end of the Cote de Beaune and the southern end of the Cote de Nuits.
The appellation was created in July 1937 and currently includes about 400 acres (161ha) of land, spread across the five villages. The majority of Cotes de Nuits-Villages wine is red, made predominantly from Pinot Noir, although about 5% of the appellation's output is white, produced from Chardonnay.
