A Mazoyeres-Chambertin wine label

Mazoyères-Chambertin is one of the grand cru climats in the Burgundy village of Gevrey-Chambertin. It is located at the southern end of the area's band of grand cru vineyards, with its southern edge touching the border of Morey-Saint-Denis. Like most of its more famous neighbors, Mazoyères-Chambertin is planted entirely to Pinot Noir.

Along with its northern neighbor, Charmes-Chambertin, Mazoyères-Chambertin occupies the lowest, shallowest slopes of Gevrey-Chambertin's grand cru belt (the higher, more prestigious half is dominated by Le Chambertin and Chambertin-Clos-de-Beze). Mazoyères-Chambertin wines have the right to their own appellation, but may also claim the Charmes-Chambertin name. This means that there are only a handful of wines produced under the Mazoyères-Chambertin name.

Both Mazoyères-Chambertin and Charmes-Chambertin have thin limestone soils over a deeper layer of rock, providing a terroir that drains freely and reduces energy-sapping vigor, while also forcing the vines to grow strong root systems. The continental climate adds to this terroir, providing a temperate growing season that lets grapes ripen fully without losing acidity.

Wines from the Mazoyères-Chambertin vineyard are not as fine or prestigious as those from Chambertin and Clos-de-Beze. However, they are classically Gevrey-Chambertin in style, showing structure, body and depth.
